Each year we go to at least 3 or 4 cities or towns in the North and the South Islands of New Zealand during the school holidays. I work from home and can holiday whenever I want while my wife is a school teacher that takes the school holidays as they come 4 times each year. It is great to spend the long Christmas holidays together traveling around by car so that we can stop off at any destination to see all the great things around this small country. We also like to see all the changes that have been made over the years that we have been traveling such as natural movement of the landscape and buildings and manmade structures that are built or torn down. When the Wellington to Auckland rail service was about to be made redundant we both took time to take one last trip however with good luck the rail system has stayed and we can journey on it anytime we get the chance.

Car rental Christchurch airport is a wonderful way to start any driving vacation because the agents that represent this company always come through with cheap deals and exceptional vehicles. We took one of their vehicles all the way down the west coast of the South Island from Christchurch to Invercargill and then back up the east coast to the inter islander ferry at the same island. Then we drove all the way to the top of the north Island stopping at all the cities and rural towns to stay at least one night each stop. It took over 4 weeks of holidaying driving to all the places we wanted to see but it did not feel like a major chore in fact it was a very refreshing holiday indeed. There are many places we want to visit again and people we would like to talk to as well.
